Alcott
(1832-1888) is an author best known for her 1868 novel Little Women, which remains a classic and
a highly popular children’s books almost 150 years later. She was also a
feminist and abolitionist.

During the Civil War, she served as a nurse in the Union Hospital in
Georgetown. She wrote several novels under the pseudonym A. M. Barnard.
